Julius Von Bismarck, CERN's first artist in residence, came for an inspiring preliminary visit January 24-26th before he starts his full time residency in March 2012. He was accompanied by Horst Hoertner, Director of Futurelab, Ars Electronica, and Matthew Gardiner, artist/researcher Futurelab Ars Electronica who are CERN's cultural partners for the Digital Arts prize - Prix Ars Electronica Collide@CERN.
The introduction programme was carefully curated to blast his imagination into new dimensions before his residency even starts. Julius had close encounters with CERN experimentalists, theorists and engineers, as well as visits to the experiments of Atlas and LHCb, AMS and the CERN Central Control Room. He also had a close encounter with our Director General, Rolf Heuer too, and said he didn' t want to leave after his 3 days. But he will be back soon.

Julius returns to CERN on March 1st to stay for two months, beginning by giving with his science inspiration partner their inaugural talk at the iconic Globe of Science and Innovation. Julius's science inspiration partner will be announced shortly too!
No wonder we call Collide@CERN - Cern's latest experiment colliding elements even more elusive than the Higgs Boson and even more invisible than particles. We will soon be seeing creative collisions between the arts and science - and who knows what will happen? Watch this space.
