CERN collaborated for the first time with a major international arts festival, Ars Electronica in Linz Austria. Called Origin, the festival announced the beginning of a 3 year cultural partnership between the two organisations. The festival consisted of lectures by CERN scientists at their annual symposium; exhibitions on physics and digital arts; arts, science and technology interventions across the city and many other events, including the Oscars of the digital arts world - the Prix Ars Electronica. At the gala night, a new prize was announced - the Prix Ars Electronica Collide@CERN award for digital arts - the first award in CERN's artists residency programme.
