Origins - with music by the Canadian composer Philip Glass and photographs by Frans Lanting was a sensational multi-media piece commissioned by CERN to celebrate the inauguration of the LHC on October 21st 2008. It was a piece expressing the wonders of the cosmos and the glory of life on earth. The celebrated Orchestre de la Suisse Romande performed the music at the opening ceremony, led by conductor Carolyn Kuan of the Seattle Symphony.
