Lea Porsager
Honorary Mention as part of Collide International 2018
New Commission 2018
Lea Porsager graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, and the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main in 2010. She began her studies as a PhD fellow at Malmö Art Academy and Lund University in September 2015.
Porsager’s practice interweaves fabulation and speculation with a variety of mediums including film, sculpture, photography, and text. Her works encompass science, politics, feminism, and esotericism. In her work, Lea Porsager seeks to associate spirituality, sensuality and language through her work, offering alternative means by which to experience and situate science today.
She received an Honorary Mention as part of Collide International Award 2018. As part of this award, she developed CØSMIC STRIKE - composed by a neutrino horn from CERN’s archive, alongside an immersive 3D animation. This work explores the neutrino: an enigmatic, mysterious particle that challenges some of the models currently being researched in contemporary science.
CØSMIC STRIKE is a superposition of hard science and loopy mysticism which aims to invoke a repetitive, occult, and oddly interstellar scene. By disrupting quantum technologies with esoteric propositions, Porsager’s work engages with a myriad of impossible and impassable worlds, with a suggestive call for other perceptions.
CØSMIC STRIKE has been exhibited in Broken Symmetries, an international touring exhibition at FACT, Liverpool (2018); CCCB, Barcelona (2018) ; iMAL, Brussels (2020); National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung (2020); Kumu, Tallinn (2020-2021); Le Lieu Unique, Nantes (2021). The result of the three year partnership between Arts at CERN and FACT Liverpool, and coproduced by ScANNER.
