Marcela Moraga
Connect Chile
Marcela Moraga was born in San Fernando, Chile, and lives in Berlin, Germany. She studied BA and MA in Fine Arts at the University of Chile. She then completed postgraduate studies in audiovisual communication at the HFBK University of Fine Arts Hamburg and an MA course in Art in Context at Berlin University of the Arts.
In her drawings, textiles and video performances, Marcela Moraga explores the tensions of the nature-culture binary order. Her projects feature rivers, animals, mountains, plants and communities affected by extractive practices as protagonists. Using speculative narrative structures and fictional methods, through spirituality and indigenous knowledge, Moraga develops new narratives that allow for the connection between humans and non-humans.
Her works have been presented in various exhibition spaces including Galerie Durchgang (2023 CH), Kunstverein Braunschweig (2022/23 DE), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (2022 DE), nGbK Berlin (2021 DE), Espacio Rozenstraat (2021 NL), Villa Romana (2020 IT), Loop Festival Barcelona (2020 ES), Bienal de Nuevos Medios Santiago (2015 CL).
In 2023, Moraga was selected for the Connect Chile residency together with Dominique Koch. The two honorees will complete a dual residency, spending three weeks at CERN, Geneva, and three weeks at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile.
